This past Advent season leading up to Christmas I did a daily reading plan with Rylee to help us focus on Jesus during the busy season. We really enjoyed it and Rylee looked forward to reading each day. (She mostly enjoyed the Hershey kiss that accompanied each day's reading!) I decided I wanted to do something similar for Holy Week and Easter. I shared the Advent plan here on the blog and had several people say they enjoyed using it with their family so I decided to share our Holy Week plan as well. You can follow this link to a printable version of each day's reading.
I cut out each day's reading and put them in an egg with a piece of candy. What's Easter without a little extra sugar in your day?
I labeled each day's egg and placed them in a $2 basket from Target. Now I just have to keep Rylee from opening up the eggs before Palm Sunday!
I hope this plan helps you find a way to help your family focus on our great Savior this coming up week. I think we are sometimes guilty of making a major deal out of Christmas and Easter gets a little shortchanged. The truth is, while celebrating Jesus's birth is certainly important, celebrating His death and resurrection may be more important. Salvation comes through His death and resurrection and I can think of nothing more praiseworthy and worthy to celebrate than that! I leave you with this great truth to ponder:
"When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, He will certainly save us from God’s condemnation. For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of His Son while we were still His enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of His Son. So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God." Romans 5:6-11
